One Line DescriptionThe most comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of all the possible aspects for biofuels production from biomass or waste material available.
Audience
Chemical engineers, petroleum engineers, process engineers, students in chemical engineering, biotechnology, petroleum engineering, agricultural biotechnology, applied microbiology, environmental biotechnology, and other areas.
DescriptionWith fossil fuels becoming more and more expensive and less accessible, alternative sources of energy are needed for our planet’s growing energy needs. Biofuels are quickly becoming a cleaner, more economic, and more accessible energy source in many countries. Continued research and development of these technologies and process is needed on an ongoing basis, which the authors have intended in this volume.
Biofuels Production aims to highlight the current ongoing progress related to second and third generations of biofuels. A lot has been said about the first generation of biofuels and among them, bioethanol has been the most successful product. However, as production of ethanol occurs from the sources that are used as food by humans, new substrates are being searched. This book is an attempt educate audiences on the current issues being faced by the second and third generation biofuels.
The book also elaborates basic mechanisms involved in the formation of biofuels. These details are easy to understand and target the undergraduate, postgraduate and research students as they can find almost an entire spectrum of information in this single location. The book covers areas like bio-diesel, bioethanol, bio-hydrogen, bio-methane, bio-butanol and others. Besides this, the book also describes the microbes that have been helpful in the development of these biofuels.
The aim of this book is to advance and disseminate knowledge in all areas of biofuel production to reduced environmental impact, economic viability and efficiency. The main emphasis is on the advancement of carefully planned biomass utilization schemes, biological waste treatment, thermochemical conversion of biomass, liquid and gaseous biofuel production, upgrading and many emerging issues such as adaptation to climate change. We hope that this book will provide a platform for the development of existing techniques, and polices for using the biofuels in sustainable manners. Each of the chapters has been rigorously read and reviewed by three or more peers before being accepted for the publication.
