| Edited by Ashutosh Tiwari, Hirak K. Patra and Anthony P.F. Turner Series: Advanced Materials Series Copyright: 2015 | Status: Published ISBN: 9781118998304 | Hardcover | 517 pages Price: $225.00 USD |
One Line DescriptionThis work provides a comprehensive description of some of the emerging opportunities in bioelectronics and biodevices facilitated by the development of novel materials.
Audience
Scientists, researchers, scholars, engineers and technologists in biosensors, bioelectronics and diagnostics in the biochemistry, biophysics, materials science, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology fields. The book can also be used as a textbook in PhD, master and undergraduate level courses on bioelectronics, therapeutics, biosensors, and translational biodevices, personalized medicine and biomedical applications in medical technology.
DescriptionIn this book, a selection of leading scientists and technology experts describe advances in nanoscale electronics and how they mesh with the bioengineering community to deliver specific applications. The contributors chronicle a wide span of opportunities, possibilities and challenges for this diverse interdisciplinary field.
The principal themes of this cross-disciplinary volume on advanced bioelectronic materials are:
• Miniaturization of bioelectronics
• Smart biosensing
• Molecular-electronic interfaces
• Stimuli-responsive (mechanical, electrical, chemical and thermal) materials
• Real-time monitoring of essential parameters to assess the state of biomolecules
The successful translation of this multidisciplinary research to commercial reality needs a deep understanding at a very early stage of the interface between electronics and biology. Consequently, the book showcases a range of sectors and disciplines who do not necessarily speak with the same ‘language,’ but who are willing to commit to a collaborative effort in areas such as this, where interdisciplinary contributions are key for success.

He is a founding member of the Advanced Materials World Congress and the Indian Materials Congress.
Hirak K Patra completed his PhD in 2007 on “Synthetic Nanoforms as Designer and Explorer for Cellular Events” at the University of Calcutta, well known for its fundamental education system with three Nobel Laureates in Asia. He moved to the Applied Physics Division of Linköping University with the prestigious Integrative Regenerative Medicine fellowship at Sweden to work with the Prof. Anthony Turner at his Biosensors and Bioelectronics Center. He has published 17 articles in top journals, 4 patents, and has been honored with several ‘Young Scientist’ awards globally.
Anthony P.F. Turner is currently Head of Division FM-Linköping University’s new Centre for Biosensors and Bioelectronics. His previous thirty-five year academic career in the UK culminated in the positions of Principal (Rector) of Cranfield University and Distinguished Professor of Biotechnology. Professor Turner has more than 600 publications and patents in the field of biosensors and biomimetic sensors and is best known for his role in the development of glucose sensors for home-use by people with diabetes. He published the first textbook on biosensors in 1987 and is Editor-In-Chief of the principal journal in his field, Biosensors & Bioelectronics, which he co-founded in 1985.
