Series Editor(s): Bijaya Bikram Samal Scope:
Demands for customization, complex designs, and superior mechanical properties, short product life cycle have driven Additive Manufacturing (AM). The phrase additive manufacturing refers to a variety of methods, including 3D printing, Rapid Prototyping (RP), Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM), Layered Manufacturing, and Additive Fabrication. Additive manufacturing is the process of making a part or component by adding successive layers of material. The advantages of additive manufacturing are that there is low waste of the material, controllability of the material property at individual layers, faster product development etc. The possibilities for using AM are endless. Early applications of AM in the form of RP focused on preproduction visualization models. Recently, AM has been utilized to create end-use goods like airplane parts, dental restorations, medical implants, food items, car components, and fashion items etc. About the Series Editor(s): Submission to the series: Published and Forthcoming Titles4D Printing Technology: Principles, Materials and ApplicationEdited by Bijaya Bikram Samal, Cheruvu Siva Kumar and Shailendra Kumar Varshney Forthcoming April 2024 |
